Androsace pyrenaica

Androsace pyrenaica, very compact alpine cushion with small dark green rosettes and white flowers with yellow center
Androsace pyrenaica

Dwarf perennial strictly endemic to the central Pyrenees, one of the most narrowly localized Pyrenean endemics, growing exclusively in limestone rock fissures between 1,500 and 2,800 meters altitude.

It forms small, very compact cushions of tiny rosettes, with linear to lanceolate, rigid, ciliated, dark green leaves, giving the appearance of a firm and regular cushion.

The flowers, solitary on very short stems, are white to very pale pink, with a yellow eye, of extreme delicacy.

Considered one of the most difficult androsaces to cultivate, it imperatively requires a vertical or overhanging limestone fissure, perfect drainage, and a cool, airy atmosphere.
