Arabis x suendermannii

Arabis × suendermannii is a hybrid of the Brassicaceae family involving Arabis ferdinandi-coburgii as one of the parents, the other parent not being established with certainty. Arabis procurrens , a ground-covering species from the Balkans, is sometimes suggested as the second parent, but this hypothesis remains to be confirmed.

Its name honors Franz Sündermann, a Bavarian nurseryman from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a recognized specialist in alpine and rock plants, who greatly contributed to their introduction and dissemination in horticulture. Another hybrid is also associated with him in the literature, Arabis × sturii , described as similar to Arabis procurrens , which highlights the importance of this species in crossings within the genus.

The plant forms dense and evergreen cushions with green foliage, with a generous spring flowering in April-May, bearing pure white flowers on upright stems.

Easy to grow, it appreciates full sun and well-drained soil, naturally integrating into rock gardens, on walls or at the edge of flowerbeds.
