Bulbous perennial of the Iridaceae family, 'Remembrance' is one of the most widespread cultivars of the large spring crocus group, selected from Crocus vernus subsp. vernus, and developed in the Dutch horticultural tradition.
Its flowers are among the largest of the group: the tepals, wide and well-rounded, are a deep and uniform purple-violet, with a slight silver sheen on the outer surface giving them a characteristic satin appearance, particularly visible when the buds are still closed. The anthers are bright yellow, forming a luminous center contrasting with the dark hue of the tepals. It is precisely this silver sheen on the outer surface that distinguishes 'Remembrance' at first glance among the dark purple crocuses.
The foliage is narrow, upright, dark green, with the typical silver median line of the vernus group. The flowers open wide in the sun and close at night and in cloudy weather.
In cultivation, flowering occurs in March-April. Very vigorous and easily multiplying, it naturalizes effortlessly in lawns or rock gardens, in well-drained soil and full sun. Planted in large swathes, its deep violet and silver sheen create a striking effect in the early sunny hours of spring.
